History
On 11 April 2014, ASEAN All-Star XI was created for a charity match against the Indonesia national team at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. The team was strengthened by a number of stars including the AFF Most Valuable Player, Shahril Ishak (Singapore), and the winner of the 2012 AFF Championship golden boot, Teerasil Dangda (Thailand) where the team will be coached by Malaysia national team head coach, K. Rajagopal who was very successful as the Malaysia's coach, including leading Malaysia to win the 2010 AFF Championship.[1][2]
In March 2025, ASEAN All-Star XI was revived to form one of the best players from each of the Southeast Asia league to represent the team in an exhibition match. It was highly anticipated that the team will face against English Premier League club Manchester United on 28 May 2025 with Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur set to host the match. On 10 April, AFF announced that Vietnam national team head coach, Kim Sang-sik who guided Vietnam to win the 2024 ASEAN Championship to lead the team.[3]
