Ayodeji Oluwaseun Awoyomi (born June 01, 1990) is a Nigerian creative photographer, the first Nigerian to win British photographer of the year.[1][2] His work in photography and visual art has earned him international renown[3] featuring in many international exhibitions
Early life and education
Born in Usi-Ekiti, old Ondo State to the family of Prince Bamidele Awoyomi, a civil servant, and Chief Mrs Funmilayo Awoyomi, a business woman, Ayodeji is the first of six children. He attended Area 1 Primary school, Garki, Abuja, and went to Government College Usi for his secondary education. His university education was at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, where he studied geology.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2016. While on campus, he actively involved himself in modelling, walking in different runways which includes the GTbank fashion week, LFW and more. Growing up, Ayodeji has always been drawn to art, particularly photography and was gifted his first camera at an early age[4]
In an interview with the Photographer, a photography magazine in UK, when asked why he chose photography over oil, Ayodeji stated it wasn't a choice, but a pure response to his embedded DNA which reads arts and photography is the medium of expression. He stated it has always been art right from childhood.[5] His work has been exhibited at the Lagos Photo Festival, Didi Museum, Madhouse Gallery, and other places.
Creative Meetup UK
After migrating to the United Kingdom, Ayodeji teamed up with Abubarkar Sulieman to host the meet-up of Nigerian creatives in the United Kingdom, which led to discoveries of various Nigerian creatives in the United Kingdom.
