Meaning[edit]
"A Certain Shade of Green" is about procrastination and excuses people to delay an activity. The lyrics "what are you waiting for?" implies action needs to be done now.[1] Other lyrics "Are you gonna stand around till 2012 A.D." and "I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate." implies how long the set person has been waiting for others to do something.
Music Video[edit]
A music video was shot to promote the song. It was shot during a performance by the band and was directed by Kenny Morrison[2]. Brandon Boyd's dad, Chuck (who also appears on the album cover for S.C.I.E.N.C.E.) is seen dressed as an astronaut.
Various other clips show a mastering deck modifide into a space ship and an empty tunnel with naked people running through it. Green camera tints are used in the video.
