Congo Rare Minerals

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Congo Rare Minerals (often abbreviated CRM) is a privately held mineral trading and gold export company headquartered in Goma, North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The company sources and exports gold and other mineral commodities from sites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda to buyers in financial and jewellery centres including Dubai, Zurich, London, Hong Kong and Johannesburg.[1][2]

History

Congo Rare Minerals traces its origins to a gold operation established in North Kivu in 2006.[3] Company material states that it later expanded to additional sites in the eastern DRC and to operations in Uganda, focusing on buying gold at origin and arranging export to international clients.[4]

A corporate profile describes Congo Rare Minerals as a firm that specialises in sourcing, trading, supplying and delivering a range of mineral commodities to industrial, investment and jewellery customers worldwide.[5]

In March 2025 the company announced an online investment platform intended to give investors remote access to its physical gold products, with real time pricing and insured global shipping.[6]

Operations

Mining and sourcing

Congo Rare Minerals reports that it sources gold from licensed mining sites in the provinces of North Kivu, Katanga and Ituri in the DRC and from partner operations in Uganda, using a documented chain of custody from mine to export.[7][8]

In addition to gold, company material states that Congo Rare Minerals also markets other mineral products such as copper, diamonds and other minerals, as well as timber exports and consultancy services related to mining and logistics.[9]

Refining and products

According to its published information, Congo Rare Minerals uses refining facilities in the DRC and partner refineries in Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. The company states that its bullion is refined to 99.99% purity and that assay reports can be provided for each shipment.[10][11]

The company offers a range of physical gold products including one ounce coins and 100 g, 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg bars, along with larger wholesale packages of dore bars, nuggets and dust.[12][13]

Responsible sourcing and community programmes

Congo Rare Minerals promotes a policy of "responsible mining" and states that its supply chain due diligence is aligned with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict Affected and High Risk Areas.[14] The company describes its gold as "conflict free" and has published guidance for buyers on conflict free gold and regulatory requirements.[15]

Company literature states that shipments are documented using serialised bar lists and, in some cases, blockchain based tracking systems, and that mercury and cyanide are avoided in its refining process.[16][17]

The company also publishes claims about social and environmental programmes in the regions where it operates, including reforestation, school and clinic construction and job creation in mining communities.[18][19] These statements are primarily sourced from the company's own promotional material.

Independent guidance on buying gold in the DRC produced by Africa Gold Suppliers lists Congo Rare Minerals among licensed dealers that provide documentation intended to demonstrate legal and conflict free origin of the metal.[20]

Online presence

Congo Rare Minerals operates a corporate website and online shop through which buyers can request quotes for physical gold and other products to be shipped from the DRC and Uganda to selected international destinations.[21][22] The company publishes blog articles and guides on topics such as export procedures, investment considerations and regulatory compliance.[23]

Congo Rare Minerals maintains social media accounts, including a Facebook page and an account on X (formerly Twitter) that are used to promote its products and provide company updates.[24][25]
