A Major is an integrated development environment currently in development that focuses on introductory robotics routine development. It targets a modified version of Microsoft's .NET Core and introduces the new language G# to the ecosystem. Its main goal is to bring together the strengths of the Object Oriented and Functional programming Paradigms into the field of Robotics in the interest of more robust sensory input and processing. It does this by introducing the G# programming language for added capabilities not natively available in .NET. Principally, the IDE accomplishes this by taking advantage of .NET's underlying Common Intermediate Language to allow interoperability between three languages (G#, C#, and F#).

A Major's code editor supports both IntelliSense (the code completion component) and code refactoring.

    Inspiration

The project's name and design draws heavily from music theory. The A major scale has three sharps: C#, F#, and G#. With C# and F# being popular .NET languages, the trio was completed and G# was introduced into the new IDE. In the music scale, G# is known as the leading tone; thus the symbolism was fully applied and G# took center stage.

    Editions

The initial release will support communication between the user's computer and with both Arduino boards and the optional custom modular-component kit available to accompany it.
