A Way to Help is a non-profit foundation in Orange County known for its continuous efforts in funding clean water well drilling in Northern Uganda.[1] It is a nonprofit Christian organization based in Lake Forest, California, founded to assist people in need and provide local "ways to help".

History

A Way to Help was founded by Maureen Terrio and Marla Bockhorst in 2007. The idea for the organization originated during a 2006 mission trip to Northern Uganda. Overwhelmed by the dire situation in displacement camps following years of war, they returned to assist. Drilling clean water wells was not their initial goal, but became the foremost need identified by the local population. For long-term sustainability, A Way to Help and its Ugandan partners provide training to villagers before well installation. The organization has installed over 100 wells to date.

Mission Statement

“Bringing clean water to those without.”

Activities

El Toro High School students (El Toro High School Away to Help/Jenna Club) helped drill a well in 2012 (at Alik Village, Kole District). Serrano Intermediate School has consistently partnered with A Way to Help, contributing to the funding of its 6th well for Uganda through recycling plastic bottles and cans[2]. Hippie Chicks Soccer Team, Lake Forest AYSO, has funded the 4th well by raising money with goals scored. Other current projects of A Way to Help include Emergency Food Relief, Kenya Vision Project, and Sisterhood of Hope.
