NoirCon, was founded in 2007 as GoodisCon, as the "World's First All Noir Convention", in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The Society Hill Playhouse, was the location of biannual conventions. After a four year hiatus, as of October 16, 2022, the organization's website boasts their all virtual noir convention that took place between October 21-23rd 2022.[1]
History[edit]
NoirCon began in Philadelphia, PA in 2007 as GoodisCon, an event dedicated to the life and work of Philly’s hometown noir hero, David Goodis. While still retaining its focus on Goodis, NoirCon expanded its horizons to encompass all aspects of the noir genre with an emphasis on literary and cinematic works. The organization was founded by Deen Kogan[2] and Louis Boxer and they became the organization's first co-presidents. After notable deaths in the organization including Kogan's death in 2018,[3] NoirCon went on hiatus, returning with a full convention in 2022.
Literature Associations[edit]
NoirCon is known for its literary associations with Megan Abbott, Scott Adlerberg, Charles Ardai, Craig Faustus Buck, William Boyle, Steph Cha, Alec Cizak, W. Paul Coates, Tia Ja'nae, Walter Mosley, Marcia Muller, Gary Phillips, Dana Polan, Duane Swierczynski, Cynthia Von Buhler, Sarah Weinman, among others who annually contribute to the conference and publications.
Events and awards[edit]
This is the first professional organization for noir authors and filmmakers. Three awards are given every year, The David L. Goodis Award, The Jay and Deen Kogan Award, and since 2012, the Anne Friedberg Award. Award recipients for 2022 include Megan Abbott, Marcia Muller and Bill Pronzini, and Sarah Weinman.

NoirCon book series[edit]
Louis Boxer and Duane Swierczynski edited the first anthology of all-original noir short stories, titled NoirCon 2012 Presents: Atomic Noir, released in 2012 in collaboration with Gutter Books.
Louis Boxer and Cullen Gallagher edited the second, titled Noir Riot: Presented by NoirCon, released in 2014 in collaboration with Gutter Books.
Retreats From Oblivion, The Official NoirCon Journal[edit]
The journal was established in 2016 with Louis Boxer as Editor-in-Chief and a stated aim of serving as a channel for unpublished literary noir works for the pulp fiction community to a worldwide audience as well as a forum for the discussion of noir and critical essays of topics pertaining to the genre. In its inaugural editorial, it specifically identified all areas of fine arts as areas of exploration to be covered by the journal.
