A with acute or Aje (А́ а́; italics: А́ а́) is a rare Cyrillic letter, which is used in Slavic Languages (Notably Russian) when the intonation of a syllable is indicated on the vowel А using the acute accent. In all its forms it looks exactly like the Latin letter A with acute (Á á Á á), This letter looks the same as the Latin A with acute (Á, á).

Usage[edit]

This letter is optional in use and usually not used in much situations other than in dictionaries or textbooks. This is to teach those learning the language of the way a word is pronounced, as only a way to express if a word has a vowel that is stressed or not.[1] For example: Москва́-река́ (Moscow River).

Computing codes[edit]

Being a relatively recent letter, not present in any legacy 8-bit Cyrillic encoding, the letter А́ is not represented directly by a precomposed character in Unicode either; it has to be composed as А+◌́ (U+0301).[citation needed]
