I with acute (Cyrillic)
I with acute or Ije (И́ и́; italics: И́ и́) is a rare letter used in the Cyrillic Script, used in some Slavic languages. This letter looks the exact same as the letter I (И и), with its only difference being the inclusion of an acute accent.[1][2]
Usage[edit]
This letter is optional in use and usually not used in situations other than being used in dictionaries or textbooks, as a way to express if a word in a language using Cyrillic has a vowel that is stressed or not. For example, in Russian: духи́ (perfume), стои́т (stand).[3]
Computing codes[edit]
Being a relatively recent letter, not present in any legacy 8-bit Cyrillic encoding, the letter И́ is not represented directly by a precomposed character in Unicode either; it has to be composed as И+◌́ (U+0301).
