Aashish Contractor, M.D. (born 1971) set up the first telemetry monitored center in the country at Cumballa Hill Hospital in Mumbai in 2001. He has been a department head at Asian Heart Institute, Certification Director at American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and head of Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Medicine at the Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital. Contractor wrote a book on preventive heart care for laypeople, The Heart Truth: Everything you wanted to know about prevention, treatment and reversal of heart disease. He is vice-chair for the International Council of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation.

Career

In 2001, he established the first telemetry monitored center in the country at Cumballa Hill Hospital in Mumbai in 2001.[1]

He was the head of department of Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation at the Asian Heart Institute[2] from its inception in 2002, till 2014. He led the post-surgery cardiac rehabilitation team at the Asian Heart Institute, under the leadership of Ramakanta Panda, for the redo bypass surgery of the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, in January 2009. Since 2003, he has served as the Certification Director of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) in India. Dr. Contractor is the Vice-Chair of the International Council of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, with more than 25 countries around the world.[5]

Contractor wrote a book on preventive heart care for laypeople, The Heart Truth: Everything you wanted to know about prevention, treatment and reversal of heart disease.[6][7]

He is currently the head of department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Sports Medicine at the Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.[1][8]

In 2016, the Zoroastrian Trust Funds of India awarded Dr. Contractor as the ‘Outstanding Zoroastrian in Medicine.’[9]

Charity

Dr. Contractor has been the Medical Director for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon from 2004 till 2014.[10] In April 2012, he did a non-stop Mumbai-Pune – Mumbai cycle ride (329 km - 200 miles) with two friends and in the process raised 12 million rupees ($200,000) for St. Jude India Childcare Centres, a charity which cares for children with cancer.[11]
