Abba Krieger is an American statistician. He is the Robert Steinberg Professor Emeritus of Statistics and Data Science at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Early life[edit]

Abba Krieger was born on July 11, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York city. He attended the Stuyvesant High School graduating in 1965.

He Graduated from MIT with three degrees in 1972: Bachelors of Science in Mathematics; Bachelors of Science in Management Science and Masters of Business Administration MBA from the Sloan School of Management. He later graduated from Harvard University with an MS degree in Statistics in 1973 and a PhD in Statistics in 1974.

Scientific fields of interest[edit]

Krieger's main areas of research are in statistical methodology including optimal approaches for clinical trials, complex methods in sample survey and methods for dealing with multiple outcomes. He has been the Principal Investigator on a grant from the Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative since 2008. He published extensively with Paul Green, arguably the father of marketing research. His research citations (from Google Scholar) exceeds 12,000.[1]

Career[edit]

Krieger joined the faculty of the Statistics Department of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1974 and in 1996 was named the Robert Steinberg Chair in Statistics[2]. Many administrative roles including Chairman from 2002-2008. Krieger chaired the committee to evaluate the Statistics Department at Harvard. Chaired the committee to evaluate the Statistics Departments in Israel. Chaired the committee to monitor the data science initiative in Israel.

Krieger is a Consultant to many of the Fortune 100 companies. He was the consultant to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on the project that led to the launch of EZ Pass.

Honors and awards[edit]

Krieger was elected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association[3][circular reference] in 1992, as a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) in 2008[4], and as an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute in 2015.

He won the best paper award from the Journal of Advertising Research and the Alpha Kappa Psi Award for paper making significant contribution, Journal of Marketing. He won the 1978 Lindback Award for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Pennsylvania[5], the Anvil Award for Excellence in teaching in the MBA program at the Wharton School and the David Hauck Award for excellence in teaching in the undergraduate program at Wharton.
