Abdul Samad Dawood (born 1983) is a Pakistani businessman and investor. He is the vice-chairman of the Board of Dawood Hercules Corporation.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Dawood earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University College London.[2]

Career[edit]

Since 2002, Dawood has managed and governed family-owned business enterprises. He is the vice-chairman of the Board of Dawood Hercules Corporation, the holding company of Engro Corporation, and chairman of the Board of the public equity firm, Cyan.[3]

Since 2015, Dawood has also been the chairman of the Board of FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan (formerly known as Engro Foods); he remained chairman after Engro Corporation sold its majority ownership stake in Engro Foods to FrieslandCampina.[4]

Dawood additionally serves as director on the boards of various business. In 2009, he joined the board of directors of Engro Corporation,[5] and was from 2018 to 2021 the vice-chairman.[6] He is a Director on the Boards of Khaadi Corporation[7] and Dawood Lawrencepur.[8] He is an advocate of market-based reforms to enable businesses to compete in regional and global arenas.[9]

He is also a director on the board of the Pakistan Business Council, a pan-industry business policy advocacy platform, that focuses on promoting business competitiveness.[10]

Dawood was also the CEO of Dawood Hercules Corporation,[11][12] and CEO of Cyan.[13]

From 2015 to 2017 Dawood was the Honorary Consulate-General of Italy in Lahore.[14]

Philanthropy[edit]

Dawood is engaged in various philanthropic work. He is a trustee of The Dawood Foundation,[15] and a member of the Board of Governors of the Karachi School of Business & Leadership.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Dawood's brother Shahzada and his nephew, Suleman, died in June 2023 alongside three others inside the submersible Titan when it imploded on a tourist expedition to view the wreck of the Titanic.[16][17]
