Ayatollah Sayyid Abdullah al-Khoei al-Ha'iri (Arabic: عبدالله الخوئي الحائري‎; Persian: عبدالله خوئی حائرى‎; 1892 – October 27, 1958) was an Iranian-Iraqi Shia scholar. He was the elder brother of grand Ayatollah, Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei.[1][2]

He was one of the grand teachers at the al-Hindiyah religious seminary in Karbala, where he was considered among the most learned in the city.[2]

Biography[edit]

Al-Khoei was born in Khoy in 1892, to Ali-Akbar al-Khoei, who was a learned alim, and went on to become the Imam of the Goharshad mosque, in the Imam Reza shrine, after leaving Najaf in 1927. In 1912, al-Khoei migrated to Najaf with his younger brother, Abu al-Qasim, and began his religious studies, in Najaf he studied under grand Ayatollah, Sayyid Kadhim al-Yazdi. Five years later, he moved to Karbala to complete his studies.[3]

After completing his studies, he took to teaching in the al-Hindiyah school and found residence in the city until his death in 1958.[4]
