Abdullah ibn Aqil (Arabic: عَبْدُاللهِ بْنِ عَقیل) was killed in the Battle of Karbala. He was cousin and companion of Husayn ibn Ali.
Biography
Abdullah ibn Aqil, who is mentioned as Abd Allah al-Akbar (عبدالله الأکبر), was son of Aqil ibn Abi Talib.
His mother is stated as Umm al-Banin al-Kilabiyya, and also as Umm Anis[1] in other sources. Abd Allah married the daughter of Ali b. Abi Talib, Maymuna.[2]
In the Battle of Karbala
On the day of Ashura, he received Husayn's permission to fight in the battlefield. Abdullah b. Khalid al-Juhani from the Hamdan tribe[3] or Amr b. Subayh al-Saydawi[4] killed him.
His name has been mentioned as a martyr of the Battle of Karbala in Ziyarat al-Shuhada as Abu 'Abd Allah b. Muslim b. 'Aqil[5]
