Abertay University RFC is a rugby union club based in Dundee, Scotland.[1]
History[edit]
Abertay University started as the Dundee Institute of Technology in 1888. The Institute had its own college rugby union side. Notable rugby union players like Carl Hogg and Andy Nicol attended the Institute.
It gained university status in 1994, using the Abertay name, first as Abertay Dundee then just Abertay. The rugby union player Tom Smith went to Abertay University.
Abertay University, Dundee HSFP and Morgan Academy RFC intend to join forces to make sure there will be a Dundee side in the Super 6 rugby union tournament should that be expanded to 8 sides or more.[2] The university will provide sport sciences to the proposed Dundee super team, the Abertay University RFC side will be expected to continue.
Sides[edit]
The side fields a Mens 1st XV and 2nd XV; and a Womens XV.[3]
Training is held at Harris Academicals ground on Monday nights at 6.30pm (Men),[4] and at 7.30pm for the Women.
The Women's side also train at Abertay Gym on Thursday night.[5]
