Abhijit Pawar is a businessman and a philanthropist who is the chairman of AP Globale and managing director of Sakal Media Group (SMG), and the trustee and director of the Sakal Social Foundation.[1][2][3].He is also the founder and chairman of the Delivering Change Foundation (DCF) which is dedicated to evoking socio-economic transformation through government collaboration[4]. Additionally, he is the printer and publisher of Sakal’s Agrowon and Gomantak newspapers, as well as printer, publisher, and managing editor of its English daily paper - The Sakal Times. Born on 17 February 1972, he is the son of industrialist and chairman of SMG, Pratap Pawar, and he succeeded his father to become managing director of SMG in 2004[5]

Growth of Sakal Media Group[edit]

On taking charge of SMG in 2004, he established new verticals such as Sakal Events for events, eSakal and sakaltimes.com for online news publication, Saam TV in the digital TV space, as well as focused attention on commercial printing and social media. In addition to expanding the business into varied media verticals, Pawar also diversified into investment advisory, manufacturing, infrastructure, and real estate[2][6][7].Pawar employs a ‘business with a cause’ approach, and the aim of these expansions was to bring about development at the grassroots level and increase social knowledge, education, and awareness.

Socio-economic transformation[edit]

After taking up the post of managing director, Abhijit Pawar has been vocal and active in utilizing the resources and reach of the Group to achieve better education, empowerment, and socio-economic transformation.[8]. Some of the initiatives he started and has been involved in include the Delivering Smart Villages Project, the Sakal International Learning Centre, Young Inspirators Network, Tanishka Foundation, Madhurangan, and e-commerce platform, sevenmantras.com[4][7]

Political involvement[edit]

Abhijit Pawar is the nephew of former agricultural minister, Sharad Pawar. Despite many political parties approaching him as a potential candidate to represent them, Abhijit Pawar has rejected all such requests.[8]
