Abhishek Mishra death case
Abhishek Mishra was a final year student of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, whose mysterious death in 2006 created a political storm. He was the son of Shubhash Mishra, chief medical officer of Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.[1][2][3][4][5]
Incident[edit]
On march 8, 2006 Abhishek along with his friends, Ragini Kumari(daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav), Vishal Pandey and Bharat Anand had gone to Dassam Falls for a picnic. All four studied in the same college. After spending some time there, they cooked and had their lunch. Around 3 pm Abhishek excused himself away from others to go for toilet. When he did not return for quite some time his friends started looking for him. They found his clothes on the stone of lower water pool. They suspected him to have drowned and informed the police. The body of Abhishek was recovered the next day from water. At this point the family of the deceased was informed. The Father of Abhishek suspected foul play and wrote a letter to the high court which treated it as a suo moto writ petition. He also claimed that Abhishek and Ragini were planning to get married.[6][7][8][4]
CBI enquiry[edit]
In his letter to high court, the father of the deceased made several claims regarding the mysterious condition of Abhishek's death. He claimed there were many deep cuts on his body and that the post-mortem report did not indicate presence of water in the respiratory system. He also claimed that the three friends of Abhishek were taken to Chief Minister's residence after the incident. Also the police was not allowing him to take his son's laptop. He felt the police were under pressure from politicians and on these ground asked for CBI enquiry.[4]The high court of Jharkhand took suo moto cognizance of the letter on December 21. In February, 2007 the court directed the state government to handover the Abhishek Mishra death case to CBI.[9][10]The CBI registered a preliminary enquiry in March, 2007.[11][12]
