Phillips Umbubu

Phillips Michael Kobena Umbubu is a retired tiddlywinks player and former captain of the Ghanaian Tiddlywinks team.

Born in Berekuso (35 KM north of Accra), on April 2nd, 1969, Umbubu attended Berekuso high school and Berekuso College before studying at the University of Ghana in Legon.

While at UOG, Umbubu studied philosophy and mathematics

Umbubu credits his teacher at high school, Mr Derek Augeymang for his love of Tiddlywinks.

Umbubu was first called up to the Ghanaian team on 30th June 1986 at just 17 years old making him the youngest player to ever compete for Ghana.

At just 20 he was selected as Ghana captain, captaining the team to a 5-3 victory over the Lesotho national team in an African zone world championship qualifier.

Umbubu announced his retirement from competitive Tiddlywinks on 5th March 2015, citing arthritis in his left hand as the main reason for ending his career.

Phillips currently resides in Krakow, Poland when he is not teaching at the University of Ghana. [1]
