Abiedo Shanduka (born 27 July 1994) is a comedian based in South Africa. He is a student at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg studying a BSc in Actuarial Science. In 2014 he made his first performance as a stand-up comedian. He first achieved critical acclaim by winning a string of debate, public speaking and poetry competitions in High School where his comedic talent was hard to miss. This saw him feature in a handful of episodes on Soweto TV shows. He is believed to be related to the Vice President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa who founded Shanduka Group. He has never admitted in public that he is actually related to the politician and business magnate. In 2015 he clinched a web development deal with Reach Beyond Your Dreams, a social development and educational organisation, after teaching himself how to code a few weeks before that.
Education and family
Abiedo is the first of 12 children.[1] He attended high school in Meadowlands Secondary School in Soweto which took a 14 km walk from his home in Braamfischerville.[1] He attributed his achievements to attending extra lessons in numerous institutions including Trac, SSIP, Kutlwanong.[2] He was the top performing academic in 2011 Soweto schools with 6 distinctions and 100% in Physical Science.[3]
Career
Since 2014 Abiedo has performed in numerous places in Pretoria, Johannesburg in South Africa and in Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Malawi. His most notable performance was headlining the No Jokes Comedy Show at Bannister Hotel in Johannesburg.
He specialises in various forms of Comedy including Improvisational comedy,Mockumentary, Wordplay, Observational comedy, Self deprecation and Black humour covering a wide range of subjects including religion, human sexuality and relationships. In an interview in 2015 Abiedo said he was inspired by fellow comedians like Trevor Noah, Whackhead Simpson and Kevin Hart. He has shared the stage with many of South Africa's greats including Loyiso Gola.
