Academy of Business in Society

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Academy of Business in Society or ABIS (formerly EABIS, the European Academy of Business in Society) is a network of over 130 companies, business schools and other institutions concerning the promotion of sustainable business practices through partnership, learning and research. ABIS’ objective is to be a reference point for organisations seeking access to thinking and practice in corporate responsibility, sustainability, and governance.

Overview[edit]

ABIS was launched in 2002 by five founding companies – IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, Shell and Unilever – and some European business schools at INSEAD with the support of the European Commission.

ABIS allows companies to explore new types of partnerships with academic institutions. It allows business to benefit from research findings and address their knowledge needs with academics and business peers. ABIS also uses research outputs and business cases you create teaching material that brings sustainability management into business school and university classrooms worldwide.

More specifically, ABIS:

  • Enables companies to benefit from academic knowledge through business driven research and events;
  • Enables businesses to focus on strategic priorities and sustainability agenda;
  • Integrates research and knowledge into business school teaching; and
  • Facilitates shared learning opportunities through partnerships and platforms of practice and thinking.

Events[edit]

ABIS organises an annual colloquium to broaden and deepen international understanding of corporate responsibility and sustainability issues as they relate to a prominent field of business practice and research. It is the world’s largest business-academic-stakeholder event on corporate responsibility and management development.

The 2013 Colloquium addressed Sustainability and Finance and was hosted by Nyenrode University in the Netherlands. The 2010 Colloquium addressed the topic of "Corporate responsibility and emerging markets" and took place at Saint Petersburg State University September 20–21. In 2011, EABIS held their 10th Colloquium at the European Campus of the Business School INSEAD, in Fontainebleau, France.
