Acala Cotton (Gossypium Hirsutum) is the upland variety most grown in the American Southwest, it has a fiber length of 28–30 mm. A unique type of Acala Cotton known as San Joaquin Valley Acala is only grown in California. It is a variety of Upland Cotton (Gossypium Hirsutum), the most commonly grown cotton in the world. Globally, variants of Upland cotton account for up to 90% of cotton production. Along with Gossypium Herbaceum, Upland Cotton is the most commonly used species to produce cottonseed oil.
