Acciaierie Valbruna (AV) is an Italian company founded in Vicenza in 1925 and operating in the metallurgy and steel industry. AV has four production plants: Vicenza, Bolzano, Fort Wayne and one in Welland, Ontario.

History[edit]

In 1925 Ernesto Gresele founded the Ferriera Valbruna, specialized in the production of tools used in agriculture. In 1939 the ironworks also became a steelworks.

During the Second World War, in 1944 the steel mill was destroyed by an aerial bombardment. Three years later, in 1947 the company changed its name from Ferriera Valbruna to "Acciaierie Valbruna Ernesto Gresele".

In 1957 Nicola Amenduni, the owner of Amenduni Nicola Spa company located in Bari specialized in the production of machines for olive oil and wine, and husband of Gresele's daughter, Maria, joined the company. With Amenduni the company found momentum by developing in stainless steels.

In 1972 a new factory was built in the industrial area of Vicenza.

In 1995 the ownership of the Acciaierie Bolzano plant located in Bolzano was acquired.

In 2004 the company acquired US Slater Steels in Fort Wayne, Indiana and renamed it Valbruna Slater Stainless.[1][2]

In April 2018 Nicola Amenduni turned 100. The five children have already been operating in the company for some time. In February 2019, three bonds were issued for a total of 150 million, intended to strengthen the balance sheet of the steel plant and fully subscribed by the sons, who control the group.

In October 2019, the company acquired a steel mill in Welland Ontario from Ampco-Pittsburgh and renamed it Valbruna Canada Ltd and Valbruna ASW Inc. This plant specializes in the production of special carbon steels,[3][4][5] and it is Canada's only specialty steel producer, unique in its ability to refine high-quality stainless steels.[5]
