Accused is an upcoming American crime drama anthology television series created by David Shore, Howard Gordon, and Alex Gansa, based on the acclaimed 2010 British TV series of the same name created by Jimmy McGovern. The series is set to premiere on Fox during the 2022–23 television season.

Premise[edit]

Told from the defendant's point of view, each episode opens in a courtroom on the accused without knowledge of their crime, with ordinary people getting entangled in extraordinary situations, ultimately revealing how one wrong leads to another, until it's too late to turn back.

Production[edit]

Development[edit]

An adaptation of the 2010 British TV series Accused was first announced as being in development at Paramount Network on January 10, 2018, ahead of the rebranding of Spike TV. David Shore was attached to develop the project under his overall deal at Sony Pictures Television, as well as executive produce the series alongside Erin Gunn for Shore's production company Shore Z Productions. It was also announced that the network was considering a straight-to-series order for the project.[1] A writers' room was opened in July 2018, with Paramount Network giving the project a three-script order. The series ultimately did not move forward at Paramount Network, and there were no further developments on the project until late 2020 when Fox eventually purchased the project for redevelopment. Homeland creators Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa were attached as writers and showrunners of the project under their overall deal at Sony Pictures Television. The project was given a multi-script order under Fox's script-to-series development model in January 2021. On May 14, 2021, Fox gave the project a series order after the scripts were very well received by studio executives. Gordon, Gansa, and Shore were set as executive producers alongside original series creator Jimmy McGovern for All3Media.[2]
