Act of War is a fantasy-themed[1] MUD (text-based online roleplaying game) founded in 1998. The game is accessible through most MUD clients across different platforms, and can also run on Flash and Java.[2] The player base is small[3] and allows for each player to have a significant impact on the game world.

Gameplay[edit]

An example of game play and world interaction text from Act of War.

Players can choose from multiple fantasy and AoW-specific classes and 3–4 subclass specializations for each class. Players can participate in player versus player and player versus environment gameplay throughout, as well as taking part in other common features of the medium such as questing, competing in competitions, and running their own guild hall.[1] Players can gain up to 61 levels and purchase special titles in game to customize their characters.

History[edit]

Act of War was created in 1998 and has undergone and survived numerous versions (called chapters) and administrations.[1] The current version is 7.0 and is entitled Act of War: A Call to Arms.
