About[edit]

Ad Minoliti, born Adriana Minoliti in 1980, is a contemporary Argentine artist whose work in sculpture, painting, video, and participatory and interactive formats is informed by queer theory and inspired by geometry.[1][2][3] Minoliti began studying painting at the age of 15 with artist Diana Aisenberg,[4] and earned a BFA from the National Academy of Fine Arts P. Pueyrredón in Buenos Aires, Argentina.[5] Minoliti uses the first name “Ad” instead of "Adriana" to avoid gender identification.[6] Minoliti is co-founder of the Argentinian feminist collective PintorAs.[7][5][8] Minoliti represented Argentina in the 2019 Venice Biennale curated by Ralph Rugoff.[9][10]

Work[edit]

Escuela feminista de pintura (The Feminist School of Painting) (2018-20)[edit]

The Feminist School of Painting is an exhibition comprising a library and collaborative series of workshops on art history, theory, and practice.[11][12] An iteration of this was the culmination of Ad Minoliti's 2018 residency at KADIST San Francisco.[13][14] The exhibition included workshops and public programs that took untraditional approaches to common themes: including a painting workshop called “Anatomy and Nudes,” hosted by Mags Dao with the intention of subverting beauty standards and encouraging attendees to reconsider who they represented through painting.[15] A 2020 iteration of The Feminism School of Painting was held at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires.)[16]

Case Study House series (2015-17)[edit]

The works in Minoltiti's Case Study House series are inspired by Case Study Houses (1945–1966), an experimental architecture initiative intended to design and create affordable housing for soldiers returning from World War II.[7] CSH#14_utopía, an exhibition and part of this series, transformed Galería Agustina Ferreyra in Mexico City into a theatrical and staged representation of an omitted Case Study House, No. 14.[7] CSH#14_utopía is also a continuation of Minoliti's earlier series Queer Deco.[4] Other works from the Case Study House series appeared in the 2017 exhibition G.S.F.C. 2.0 (Geometrical Sci-Fi Cyborg) at Cherry and Martin, Los Angeles.[17][18]
