About

Ad Minoliti, born in 1980, is a contemporary Argentine artist whose work in sculpture, painting, video, and participatory formats is informed by queer theory and inspired by geometry.[1][2] Minoliti began studying painting at the age of 15 and earned a BFA from the National Academy of Fine Arts P. Pueyrredón in Buenos Aires.[3] Minoliti uses the first name “Ad” to avoid gender identification.[4] Minoliti is co-founder of the Argentinian feminist collective PintorAs.[5] Minoliti represented Argentina in the 2019 Venice Biennale curated by Ralph Rugoff.[6]

Work

Escuela feminista de pintura (The Feminist School of Painting) (2018-20)

The Feminist School of Painting is an exhibition comprising a library and collaborative workshops on art history, theory, and practice.[7] This project culminated from Minoliti's 2018 residency at KADIST San Francisco.[8] The exhibition included workshops such as “Anatomy and Nudes,” aimed at subverting beauty standards.[9]

Case Study House series (2015-17)

The Case Study House series is inspired by Case Study Houses (1945–1966), an initiative to design affordable housing for soldiers returning from World War II.[5] CSH#14_utopía transformed Galería Agustina Ferreyra in Mexico City into a staged representation of an omitted Case Study House.[5] This series continued Minoliti's earlier work Queer Deco.[3]
