Adam Best (born December 18, 1978 in Kansas City, Missouri) is an American entrepreneur, film producer, writer and political activist. He is a co-founder and former CEO of FanSided, a sports, news, and entertainment network. Best graduated from Full Sail University’s school of film.[1] He has worked professionally as a screenwriter, commercially as an actor, and has written and directed several short films. He is an executive producer for the film, “Here We Are,” which premiered at the Austin Film Festival.[2] Best is a produced playwright. While studying playwriting at the University of Missouri, he received a Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival nomination. Best also briefly played linebacker and safety for the Emporia State University football team.

Education[edit]

Best studied theatre at Kansas State University from 1999-2002. He then attended Full Sail University from 2002-2003 where he obtained a degree in film, cinema and video studies. Afterwards, Best took courses at the University of Missouri from 2004-2005. He was granted a scholarship while studying playwriting at the University of Missouri, and received a Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival nomination.

Career[edit]

After being selected as a finalist for FOX Sports Next Great Sportswriter II contest [3] in 2006 (under pseudonym “absolutebest”), he and his brother, web designer Zach Best, launched a Kansas City Chiefs blog called Arrowhead Addict.

In 2009, Best and his brother co-founded FanSided, an online sports blog, news and entertainment network. Best served as CEO of FanSided until it was acquired by Time Inc.[1]

In 2015, after FanSided sold, Best stayed on as a general manager overseeing the FanSided network as a division of the Sports Illustrated Group.[4] In December 2016, FanSided launched Fandom 250 where it ranked the top 250 fantasy football fan bases, with Best describing it as shining a spotlight on "passionate fans."[5]

On March 2, 2017, Best announced his departure from FanSided.[6]

Activism[edit]

Best often expresses his thoughts and opinions on modern-day American politics and social issues through social media. He is known for his anti-Trump stance and advocating for liberal democratic causes and animal rights.[7]

Controversy[edit]

On October 17, 2017, Adam Best publicly criticized online sports and entertainment publication Barstool Sports, for posting a tweet with sexual innuendo. In response, one of Barstool Sports writers posted old tweets from Adam Best, dating between 2009 and 2010, that included inappropriate sentiments towards women. As a result, on October 19, 2017, Best issued an on Twitter.[8] On October 27, 2017, Best provided additional commentary on the incident in an op-ed titled ‘A Look in the Mirror: Men Need to Help Change the Culture of Toxic Masculinity,’[9] which was published on Medium.com.
