Adam Lastiwka

Adam Lastiwka (pronounced lah-STOO-kah)[1] is a Canadian musician and composer.[2][3]

He has written music for more than 500 episodes of television.[3] His music has primarily been used in science fiction (often involving use of synthesizers[4]) and reality TV series. A multi-instrumentalist, he owns about 100 instruments and has taught himself to play most of them himself.[2][5]

Early life, family and education[edit]

Lastiwka is the youngest sibling in his family. His grandfather was a musician who recorded albums.[2]

He apprenticed for seven years with Shawn Pierce.[2]

Career[edit]

Lastiwka received a three-album contract from an independent record label when he was 17 years old.[2]

He has composed the music for the Canadian sci-fi series Travelers[6][7][8] which was also distributed by Netflix.[3][2][4] He is the composer for several other television series, including The Astronauts and the reality shows Eat St., Klondike Trappers, Jacked! and Jade Fever.[5] Additionally, he composed the music for two episodes of Colony and one episode of The Expanse. He has also been a music editor for the series Yukon Gold. His music has been featured on TV networks that include The History Channel, Discovery Channel, Food Network, Syfy and NatGeo.[3]

He has written music for the Xbox video game Gears 5: Hivebusters.[1] He created the music for an interactive public art installation in Vancouver, FIELD, which opened in 2018.[9]

Lastiwka has also recorded albums.[5] The soundtracks to the first two seasons of Travelers were released by Lakeshore Records.[3]

Personal life[edit]

Lastiwka resides in Vancouver.[8][9] He is Type 1 diabetic.[2]
