Addenbrooke's Intercollegiate Boat Club (AIBC) is a boat club for clinical medical students, at the University of Cambridge who do not wish to row for their colleges.[1][2], but who still want to row in races on the River Cam such as bumps. The club mainly trains on weekends allowing students to fit in training around their clinical placements which are often outside of Cambridge.

Racing[edit]

While in the past the club has been able to field separate M1 and W1 boats[3], in recent years AIBC has entered a single mixed boat in the M3 division of Lent Bumps. In 2020, they started and finished at 51st after bumping Anglia Ruskin M1 on day 3 then being bumped by Hughes Hall M2 on day 4. In 2022, AIBC X1 fell from M3 to M4 division after being bumped on days 2, 3, and 4[4]. With May Bumps 2020 being called off and being replaced with 'Virtual Bumps', Addenbrooke's entered two 'crews' in the competition and returned to Easter term competition for the first time in 8 years. [5]

AIBC has also been involved in other events on the Cam. In May 2022, an AIBC boat won the mixed 8+ division of St. Radegund Mile. In the 2022/23 academic year, AIBC also had success in the Cambridge '99 Autumn Regatta[6] and in the Cantabs Winter Head[7]

AIBC travelled to Oxford in September 2022 for a friendly day of racing with their counterparts at Osler House Boat Club.
