Adekemi Kikelomo Adeniyan is a Nigerian dentist, writer, and health advocate. She is the founder and executive director of the Dentalcare Foundation, an organisation that provides dental outreach and oral health education in rural Nigeria, and the chief executive officer of Smile Superheroes, a company producing educational resources on oral health for children.[1] In 2025, she received the Roux Prize from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation for her work on rural oral health equity.[2]
She was a regional finalist for Sub-Saharan Africa in the Study UK Alumni Awards (Social Action category) in 2025.[3] Adeniyan also serves as an associate pastor and coordinating pastor at New Reality Christian Centre in Nigeria.
Early life and education
Dr Adeniyan attended Lara Day Nursery and Primary School in Lagos and Federal Government Girls College, Omu-Aran. She studied dentistry at Ternopil National Medical University in Ukraine, graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2013. She later obtained a Master of Science in Medical Leadership from Lancaster University, United Kingdom, through the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship (2019–2022).[4]
Career
In 2018, Dr Adeniyan founded the Dentalcare Foundation, which runs free dental outreach programmes and provides oral health education in rural areas of Nigeria.[5]
She has produced oral health education materials for children, including the book The Girl Who Found Her Smile (2022) and the animated series Anita Says.[6] Her work has been translated into several languages and adapted into formats including activity books and virtual reality content.
Dr Adeniyan has written opinion articles in outlets such as BMJ Global Health, Punch Nigeria, and IPS News, addressing issues related to oral health and health equity.[7]
