Early Career[edit]

Adi starts his acting career in 2006. He was first cast in the musical fountain spectacle, Songs of the Sea where he continued to perform for audience from all over the world till 2011. While working on the set of Songs of the Sea during those years, he also starts to dabble with other theatre productions and commercial works. In 2009, he received the nomination for Best Upcoming Actor for a 10-minutes play titled 4-Seconds, which was written by Leon Foo and directed by Christina Sergeant and presented as part of the Short + Sweet Festival 2009[6]. He left Songs of the Sea in 2011 to pursue more acting projects and further his studies.

Between 2012 to 2017[edit]

After leaving Songs of The Sea, Adi was then cast in the 20th Anniversary stage production of Army Daze in 2012, where he played the role of Johari, formerly played by Sheikh Haikel in the 1996 film adaptation. He reprised his role when the production was restaged in 2013. In that same year, Adi also pursued a BA in English and Literature and set up his own drama education company, A.D.I Concept. Between 2015 to 2016, he also pursued a Specialist Diploma in Arts Education, while experimenting with different theatre mediums and format through his works -- Tanggang: The Unfilial Son[7], staged in 2014; #BPBM[8], staged in 2015 and #4S[9], staged in 2016.

After he graduated in 2017, he begins to dabble in writing and directing for young audience. His first work for young audience, titled The Four Harmonious Friends, was staged at the inaugural Kiidsconnect Festival 2017[10][11][12]. In that same year, he wrote, directed and acted in his first Malay theatre production for young audience titled Kekuatan Salam Kelemahan, which was staged for the Sayembara Theatre Festival 2017[13]. The production won Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Script, Best Upcoming Talent, Best Technical Director and Best Production[14].

Adi also worked on set for Singapore's first homegrown children's sitcom, known as Upside Down, a 24-episode series, where he played the villain known as Mr Ortega[15].

Between 2018 to 2020[edit]

Between 2018 to 2020, Adi pursued his Masters in Education (Drama) as he works on assembly plays for various statutory board such as the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA)[16], National Environment Agency[17] as well as Health Promotion Board (HPB)[18]. He also wrote a short Malay fiction titled Mak Kat Mana, which was shortlisted as one of the 35 finalist for a writing competition known as Mencari Kristal 2019[19]. He later developed this short fiction into a short film, as part of a commission work by the National Arts Council (NAC). In 2018, his play Live won Judges Choice in the Crash Test Theatre 2018[20], Third prize for the Lit Up Asia-Pacific festival 2018[21] and is one of the ten finalist for Short & Sweet Festival, Kuala Lumpur as well as Short & Sweet Festival, Penang. Critical Reviews on previous works[edit]

Here are some reviews of Adi's work, either as an actor, writer or director;

  • In Simon Says, where Adi acts as the character known as Green, he is said to "display good physicality of the gruff, downtrodden and mechanical" character[29].
  • His performance for his role as one of the stones in Eurydice was praised in a review by Bakchormeeboy[30]. City Nomads term his performance as the irritable yet powerless stone as convincing and endearing[31].
  • 4S received a harsh review by amateur critic, Jorah Yu who claimed that the play was poorly structured and seemed like a "sloppy late night show"[32]
  • His play, "Susuk" received praises from reviewer, Isaac Tan[33]
