Jane Katjavivi (born 1952) is a Namibian author , a publisher and editor.[1] [2] [3]Her full name is Rosemary Jane Tuauana Katjavivi. [4]
Life and Career
Jane Katjavivi was born in Leeds northern of England and moved to Namibia in 1990.[5] [6] As a young girl she joined a church charity work in support of underdeveloped nations[7]. She then studied Literature and African Studies at University of Sussex, this has lead her to be in contact with African students and inspired her to be an activist against Apartheid in Southern Africa. [8] She did a Master degree at University of Birmingham specialized in African studies, her thesis is titled " South Africa Subimperialism .[9] In 1981 she got married to Peter Katjavivi a SWAPO Politician and Historian.[10] [11] Katjavivi's first job was a scholarship officer at a scholarship charity in London at World University Services in 1975 .[12] [13] While she was at this position she managed to raise fund for Southern African students who were deprived their rights to education because of their race or political affiliation. As results five Namibians benefited from this charity, the beneficiaries includes Jackson Kaujeua and Bishop Colin Winter. [14] She also worked as a journalist and a copy editor in London.[15] . At Namibia's Independence in 1990 Jane established New Namibia Books, a publishing house and for ten years it facilitated in Publishing Namibian writings.[16] In 2011- 2016 Katjavivi was one of the founding publisher at University of Namibia Press. [17] Katjavivi played a role as a founding chairperson of various organization such as the Association of Publishers in Namibia, Namibia Book Development Council, Southern African Representative on Africa Publishers Network Board.[18] She is also a member of African Books Collective Management Committee.[19] Her publishing works includes peer review books in area such as language and culture, public policy and law, history and memory politics and autobiography.[20] Jane Katjavivi is also the author of book titled Undisciplined Heart and other serval short stories.[21]
