Adriana Yadira Gallego (1974) is a Mexican American painter.

Biography[edit]

Adriana Yadira Gallego was born in 1974 in Nogales, Sonora. She grew up in Sonora, Arizona. Her father Carlos Gallego was a U.S. citizen and firefighter who told her stories about recovering fingers from the fence of the border.[1] She enrolled in the University of Arizona intending to pursue a law degree, but changed her major after doodling in a psychology course.[1]

In 1997, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Arizona. She went through a New York Arts program and studied in Guanajuato.[2] Gallego spent some time as an art educator and served as the Chief Operating Officer of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, but now currently serves on the national board of directors for Grantmakers of the Arts.[3] She currently resides in Arizona and is an executive director at Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona.

She collaborated with artist Claudio Dicochea, a fellow University of Arizona alumni, to paint a mural of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Festival in Half Moon Bay, California.[4] They began the mural in June 2003 and unveiled it in September 2003. Gallego and Dicochea continued their work, lived and shared an art studio in Los Angeles. They share a website where Gallego's art is digitized.[5]
