Advanced Processing & Imaging (API) is a software developer and provider of document management (EDM), enterprise content management (ECM), records management, workflow automation and business process management (BPM) solutions for public and private organizations.[1][dead link] API is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. The company is a certified IBM Business Partner and Microsoft Gold Partner,.[2] The company specializes in automating business processes and the electronic classification, storage, retrieval, distribution and retention management of the documents that power business operations. API solutions contribute to a significant reduction in the amount of paper that government, education and businesses consume, helping significantly reduce risk and costs while bringing organizations closer to becoming “green.”

API's approach emphasizes the streamlining of business operations without requiring an overhaul in existing processes. The company's flagship document management solution, OptiView®, integrates with line-of-business applications (e.g., ERP, CRM and SFA) without any custom programming to automatically present information relevant for the task-at-hand without having to manually search. API mPower, API's Business Process Automation solution is used to accelerate business processes and eliminate the need to distribute paper forms, documents and reports that are needed to complete tasks. Paper documents typically cause process bottlenecks and open organizations to security and compliance risks. API's mPower and OptiView are integrated for a total solution.

API has maintained USA-based R&D and technical support since its inception. The API portfolio also includes agenda administration, public information portals and secure online billing statements. The company is a certified IBM® Business Partner, Microsoft Gold Partner and Microsoft® ISV.

History[edit]

Advanced Processing & Imaging (API) was founded in January 1996 by Leonard Ferro, Juan Rodriguez, Lonnie Sanders and Bob Sarneli. The origins of the company are traced back to 1995, when Rodriguez and Sanders received a request by Carnival Air Lines for a solution that would streamline the management of traveler tickets. On the heels of their success with Carnival, the duo went on to sell the solution they developed with the help of Ferro and Sarneli to LensCrafters, NuTone, and National Sanitary (a division of Georgia-Pacific).

In 2005, Rodriguez spearheaded the company’s technical evolution to provide software solutions via the cloud and entrusted aspects of business management to career executives. In 2007, there was an infusion of venture capital to assist with growth. In April 2010, Rodriguez reclaimed the reins of API as President & CEO.

In 2014, API launched their Cloud/SaaS Process Automation and Document Management offerings to help organizations speed deployment to increase Return on Investment (ROI), reduce IT costs and gain improved data protection and business continuity. In December 2014, API launched mPower Business Process Automation platform to help City Agencies, Public School Districts and Small/Medium Businesses (SMBs) automate business processes to gain significant operational efficiencies.

In 2015, API launched their Fiscal Transparency Portal for City and County Government. API's solution offers citizens on-demand instant access to all public financial data in simple to understand tables, charts and graphs to demonstrate fiscal accountability and build community trust. It's also used by management and staff to track income and expenses and perform financial analysis to avoid budget shortfalls.

Sector Impact[edit]

API's proprietary technology is currently being used by thousands of employees in for-profit businesses, municipalities, government agencies, court systems and public school districts in the U.S. and abroad to streamline administrative operations and reduce operating expenses. API tools also provide simplified access to public information for hundreds of thousands of citizens.

In the private sector, API solutions help for-profit businesses accelerate processes, increase staff efficiency and improve sales and service to drive business growth and increased profitability. In the government sector, API solutions are used by municipalities to facilitate their mission of delivering transparency in government. API are leveraged by virtually every single department in local government agencies to simplify citizen access to public information, streamline all types of government paperwork, and automate administrative operations. In addition to helping minimize bureaucracy (and citizen frustration), API’s solutions help agencies manage budget constraints more efficiently and reduce operating expenses.
