Advent is a re-edition of a 2012 demo album by the London-based French recording artist AlanAsound. The first time the album was released the artist was using the name Alan A. It is composed of 26 one-minute songs based on the letters of the alphabet and composed an advent calendar originally in 2012, and again in 2016. It was first released officially on iTunes, Amazon.com, Spotify, Deezer and all other major platforms in January 2013, but was removed in 2016 and will be re-released on 26 December 2016.
Background[edit]
Back from Vancouver in late October 2012, AlanAsound had a number of unfinished songs and decided it would be putting them to good use to release them this way, but more had to be composed to complete the album. All songs were entirely written, composed and recorded in his family home in Notre-Dame-des-Landes, West of France. AlanAsound explained in his 2016 introduction to the re-release that all songs are "very raw [...] but I'm still very proud of that album"
Release and promotion[edit]
The album was released as an advent calendar, hence the name Advent, and is composed of 26 one-minute songs. AlanAsound chose to have the songs this short as he believed people would spend one minute per day for this, but not more. The songs were each beased on one letter of the alphabet, in the right order. A video was shot for each song, or was put together from previous personal videos or photos from the artist. In 2012, each video was sent every day in a newsletter, with an email sent every day from 1 to 26 December 2012, and uploaded on the same day to YouTube. The newsletter was sent to over 100 people, who previously signed up for it on the artist's website. In 2016, the videos were uploaded to Instagram and Facebook. The date, letter of the day, and name of the song was uploaded as a picture on Instagram Stories, as well as a short video from the artist explaining the backgrounds of the song and the video of the day.
