Adventure Quest (LARP)
Adventure Quest is an outdoor live-action roleplaying game (or LARP) designed for children and teenagers.
History[edit]
Mark Hoge, who had played Dungeons & Dragons as a child, was introduced to LARPing in his mid-twenties. At the time he was working at a summer art camp in Connecticut, and organized a LARP for a group of the campers. The result was so successful that when Hoge moved to Boulder County, Colorado in 1995, he founded Renaissance Adventures in order to introduce LARPing to children and teenagers ages 7–18[1] in a summer camp setting.[2]
Description[edit]
A costumed storyteller introduces a Quest to a group of children, and invites them to don costumes, put on foam swords, and join the Quest. At various points, the children are faced with mental, physical, social, and ethical challenges, and at forks in the storyline, must make decisions about which actions to take. The mechanics of the game stress teamwork, conflict resolution, and learning.[3]
