The African Schools Championship is a bi-annual football competition organised by the sport's African governing body, CAF.[1]. The competition has been held since 2022 [2]
History
In April 2022, the CAF president Motsepe launched the CAF African Schools Football Programme during his visit to Mozambique. The first edition will be in 2022. The tournament qualifying process will be divided into phases, starting at the schools level. The first phase will be national, with U-15 teams (aka school teams) from different national schools competing. The winner will represent the country in the regional qualification. The second qualification level will be zonal, with each zone of the six African zones having their qualification, and the winning school (national school team) will qualify for the first African competition.[3] [4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
In 2022, the regional qualification process began in each country, as each country had to have one team to represent it. In the last quarter of 2022, the regional qualification began, resulting in the qualification of one school from each zone to compete in the first edition[11] that was held in South Africa[12]. CS Ben Sekou Sylla from Guinea is the first team to win the title. [13]
