Afrocen3 is an independent music group based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The group currently consists of two artists, "Razz" and "Chaylos", both of whom are from Rivers State, Southern Nigeria. They recently released a 5-track EP titled "Best Of Afrocen3" in October 2015.[1]

History

Afrocen3 was created in the summer of 2012 by the initial founders Chaylos and G-doz under the name "BMG" shortly after the two had recorded their first single in the studio. Razz joined the group shortly after in December 2012 and the trio decided to change the name of the group from BMG to Afrocen3. This was officially done in January 2013.[2]

In September 2013, it was rumored that Razz was leaving the group. These rumors were dismissed as false after the group's single "Throway" was featured on NotJustOk.[3] They were the first afrobeat group in Vancouver to ever achieve this.

On October 15, 2015, Afrocen3 released a 5-track EP titled "Best of Afrocen3," which was a collection of singles they had previously released.

On February 1, 2016, after months of speculation, G-doz announced his departure from Afrocen3 and released two singles as a solo artist[4]

Career And Style

Afrocen3's music has been largely classified as Afro-beat music, mainly because of the group's name and its members’ country of origin (Nigeria). However, major reggae, hip-hop, and dance-hall influences can also be heard in their music. The group has been associated with various Afro-beat acts such as Davido, Ice Prince, P-Square, Danagog and Lasgiidi. They have also been associated with various international acts such as Akon, Karl Wolf, and Cyhi the Prynce.

Despite their popularity in Vancouver's Afro-beat community, the group has yet to release a music video for any of their singles to date.
