Afterlife (often stylized as Afterlife Recordings or Afterlife Records) is an electronic music record label and event series founded in 2016 by the Italian music production and DJ duo Tale of Us (Carmine Conte and Matteo Milleri).[1] The label has become highly influential within the contemporary electronic music landscape, particularly known for pioneering and popularizing the melodic techno genre. It is globally recognized for its immersive, visually striking live events, its high-profile artist roster, and its signature "falling man" logo.[2]
History
Afterlife was conceived in 2016 following an extensive 13-week residency held by Tale of Us at the legendary Space Ibiza club.[3] The inaugural release of the label was the 10-track compilation album Realm of Consciousness, which was launched in conjunction with an event at Barcelona's Plaza Mayor de el Poble Espanyol. This compilation featured tracks from various artists and successfully established the label's signature moody, atmospheric sound.
Over the years, Afterlife expanded from a traditional record label into a multi-dimensional global platform. Alongside the label's growth, the founders developed their own respective solo projects under the Afterlife umbrella: Matteo Milleri as Anyma (which integrates heavy use of visual arts, artificial intelligence themes, and NFTs) and Carmine Conte as MRAK.[4]
Events and Shows
The Afterlife event series is renowned for its state-of-the-art visual installations, utilizing massive LED screens, holograms, and conceptual audiovisual narratives that synchronize with the music. The shows have expanded globally, taking place at major international venues and festivals. Notable event locations include Tomorrowland, Printworks London, the Brooklyn Mirage in New York, Miami Music Week, and São Paulo.[5]
In late 2024, Afterlife presented "Afterlife presents Anyma: The End of Genesys," making Milleri the first-ever electronic music artist to hold a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.[6]
One of the most defining events for the label is its annual residency at the Zamna Festival in Tulum, Mexico. Usually held in early January, the Afterlife event is widely considered the pinnacle of the Zamna season. Taking place in an open-air cenote in the middle of the Mayan jungle, the event features multiple stages curated by Tale of Us and boasts immersive mind-altering visuals tailored specifically for the natural environment.[7]
Evolving from single-day showcases and arena tours, the brand officially launched the independent Afterlife Festival concept in 2025. Designed as multi-day experiences across multiple stages, these festivals represent a new dimension for the label's community. The inaugural 2025 editions took place in Mexico City and at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. To showcase the duality of the founders' solo projects, the festival days are uniquely split: one day curated exclusively by Anyma, and the other curated by MRAK, culminating in combined Tale of Us performances.[8]

Imprints and Partnerships
While operating independently for its core underground electronic releases (with vinyl distributions traditionally handled by Muting The Noise), Afterlife entered a significant partnership with the major label Interscope Records in 2023.[10] This partnership helped distribute massive commercial releases to a wider global audience, including Anyma's highly successful studio albums Genesys (2023), Genesys II (2024), and The End of Genesys (2025).
