Agar (Pronunciation: [a:gɾ]) is a village located in the coastal town of Dahanu in Palghar district of Maharashtra state in Konkan division. It is located 12 km from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

Location[edit]

Dahanu is located 65 km north of Virar on the Western Railway line of Mumbai Suburban Railway. It can be reached from National Highway NH-8, 24 km off from Charoti Naka. It is 22 km North of Boisar on the Western Railway line. Nearby there is a Hanuman Temple. Also famous for Kevdadevi Temple.

The village[edit]

The village is divided into four sections which are Unnati Mandal[1]. Shree Ram Yuvak Mandal[2], Sanskruti Vikas Mandal[3] and Thakurvadi Mandal[4]. all the people in the village very friendly.

Agriculture[edit]

Agar is well known for its famous chikoos, coconuts and tadi drink, a juice of palm tree. It is also known for its loving nature environment.

Major Attractions[edit]

  1. Baludyan[8] - Baludyan is a beautiful, well maintained and a lovely childrens park with two giant girraf statues at the entrance of the park and is full of dinosaur statues and rides for childrens to play. It also has a jogging rout around it for fitness freaks.
  2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kridangan[9] - this is a make shift cricket ground just besides Baludyan created by the local boys to play cricket.

Major Events[edit]

  1. A previously undisclosed survey by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), to assess the impact of the proposed Vadhawan Port on coastal fisheries in Palghar district’s eco-sensitive Dahanu taluka, shows that the project will impact livelihoods of at least 20,809 fisherfolk, comprising 5,333 families and living in 16 fishing villages within a 10km radius of the port. These include Agar, Narpad, Dahanu, Dhakti-Dahanu, Gungwada, Tarapur, Varor, Dandepada, Chinchani, Ghivali, Kambode, Tadiyale, Dhumket, Abram, Asangaon and Matgaon.[10]
