Age is a method of classifying humans defined as the amount of time a human has been alive, most often measured in years.[1]
Age plays a significant role in society, with the way people are treated often depending on their age - for example, elderly people often face age discrimination due to stereotypes about them.[2]
While most of the world assigns an individual the age of 0 at birth, some cultures instead start the count at 1.[3]
Legal importance
Legally, any person below a certain age is considered a minor, most commonly 18 years old.[4]
