Nawab Haji Syed Ahmad Ali Khan Bahadur 'Qayamat' (died 1786 AD), was the founder of the Doolighat Estate and the first Nawab of Azeemabad. He was the eldest son of Asadullah Shah Syed Sa'adat Ali Khan of Sheikhpura.

Life[edit]

Nawab Haji Syed Ahmad Ali Khan Bahadur was born in the family of Sufi mystics, his uncles were Nawab Shoeib Khan, the Commander in Chief of the Mughal Army under Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir and Allama Syed Mohammad Naseer, who served as the Mughal Ambassador in the Savafid Court of Iran. He completed his education from Najaf and returned in the year 1720. In his early 20s he founded the Doolighat Estate along with Sangidalan. He was later awarded with the jageers of Pargena Haweli Azeemabad, Pargena Hajipore, Pargena Tirhut, Pargena Tirsath, Masoomnagar, Shahabad, Premnagar and Saleemabad along with the royal Moghul Palace, Bagh Haweli at Doolighat, by the then Moghul Emperor of Hindostan, Alamgir II.[1]

Nawab Saheb was a Persian poet, and composed 1291 ghazals in total, compiled them in his book Haider Nameh. He is also considered as the person who established azadari in Bihar, the very first Imambara was constructed at Doolighat and the another one at Sangidalaan, in the same year of 1722.[2]

As a poet[edit]

He remained a practicing Sufi throughout his life and his poetry serves as a clear depiction of his mysticism.

چون تواند بود با این جهل در شہر خرد،

کرد خوش بہلول دانا مزہب دیوانہ ہا

"It is when the city of wisdom gets overwhelmed with fallacies,

The wisdom wraps itself in the veil of eccentrism."

Death and Succession[edit]

He reigned until his death in 1786 AD and was succeeded by his eldest son Nawab Syed Khadim Hussain Khan Bahadur 'Khadim' Azeemabadi of Doolighat.

Epitaph[edit]

Meer Zain-ad-Deen Mohammed 'Ishq' a prominent poet of his era, in the memory of Nawab Haji Syed Ahmad Ali Khan Bahadur wrote an elegy, with its first line being :

!چہ گویم از کمال حاجی احمد

'What is to be said about the excellence of Haji Ahmad!'
