Ahoy is an unreleased multiplayer role-playing video game developed and published by Capstan Games. It is the first game developed by Capstan Games, and will be a naval game set in the late 18th century in the Caribbean.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

The game will be played from a first-person perspective as you play a naval officer. The task of the player on-board is to direct the AI-controlled crew. Players will be able to explore, do battle, trade and manage their ships.

Players will be able to join one of five nations; the British, French, Spanish, US-Americans or the Dutch. They can also choose not to associate themselves with any nation.

The game will be divided into two separate experiences; Arena and Persistent World, dictating the playing experience.

Arena[edit]

Arena mode will be the first part of the game to be released. It will focus solely on PVP naval combat. Players, in teams of 4-8, will crew a ship together and engage in naval combat with other ships.

Persistent World[edit]

Persistent World is a long term vision for Ahoy. It will most likely be separate from Arena mode, and will see the player play in a persistently online world. The player will engage in different activities, such as exploring and trading, in order to progress. Players in this world will collectively shape it over time.

The mode will feature a dynamic economy, one which is impacted by the players. Prices for goods will fluctuate depending on the trading done by players.

Development[edit]

Development of the game has been in progress since at least 2021.[2] Most of the development costs are funded by crowdsourced donations.

The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, a game engine. During its development, it was nominated for the Houdini Award as part of the Game Development World Championships.[3]
