Aidan Comerford, known also as Aidan Strangeman, is an Irish former comedian and writer. He won the "So You Think You're Funny?" award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2014.

Background[edit]

Comerford performed original songs as a singer/songwriter, and with the band "Her Little Orchestra," from 1998 to 2006. In 2010, he began performing cabaret and comedy in a duo called "The Guilty Folk." In September 2012, director Una McKevitt incorporated The Guilty Folk's songs into the show "Singlehood," which was performed in the Dublin Arts Centre as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival. In 2013, Singlehood was performed in Vicar Street and the Olympia Theatre. Aidan also started performing stand-up and musical comedy under the stage name "Aidan Strangeman." In 2014, he won the prestigious new standup comedy competition "So You Think You're Funny?" award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.[1] He also performed as part of the cast for a nationwide tour of "Singlehood." In 2015, he performed at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, and the Vodafone Comedy Festival. He also performed his musical comedy show "Horsey" in The Gilded Balloon at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival that year.[2]

In early 2016, Comerford said he stepped back from comedy when it started "to get in the way of family life".[3]

Later in 2016, Comerford started contributing humorous stories and essays to the Facebook page "Oh My God What A Complete Aisling." In 2017, his book Corn Flakes for Dinner: A Heartbreaking Comedy About Family Life was published by Gill Books, which came about after an editor from Gill Books spotted a post he had written on the "Oh My God What a Complete Aisling" page. In it, he wrote about his life as a father of two autistic children. It is described as "A funny, heartfelt and uplifting memoir about the challenges and adventures of parenting..."[citation needed]

In 2019, he created the Twitter page "Martha's Napkins" to highlight the artwork his wife Martha drew on napkins for their eldest child which "became a social media hit."[4]
