Aindra Dasa, born Edward Striker, (12 March 1953 - 17 July 2010), was an American musician known for his manta meditation music (kirtan) associated with International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) more commonly known as the Hare Krishna Movement. He was a disciple of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and a sannyasi famous[1] for his kirtan style within the movement and worldwide. His vision was to keep the kirtan as the centre of Hare Krishna Movement.


Life[edit]

Edward Striker was born at 12 March 1953 at Arlington, Virginia, United States[2]. He got initiated by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1974[3] and started street kirtan in New York City. He was associated with Washington and New York City ISKCON temples and later travelled across United States to make the Hare Krishna Movement a grassroot revolution.

Career[edit]

Aindra came to Vrindavan in 1982 and started the famous 24 hours kirtan at ISKCON Krishna Balaram Mandir Temple [4][5][6][7][8]. For kirtans, he often travelled within Vrindavan and to Mayapur[9]. His team[10] [11] now travels extensively throughout the globe especially Europe and America to spread the Hare Krishna Movement.

Writings[edit]

Aindra authored three books named The Heart of Transcendental Book Distribution[12][13] which received wide acclaim and promotion in ISKCON and worldwide. Other notable works include Sri Sri Harinama-Kalpataru First Gem, Sri Sri Harinama-Kalpataru Second Gem.

Death[edit]

On July 17 2010, Aindra passed away at Vrindavan following a fire accident at his room [14][15][16] and was cremated at the banks of Yamuna. He was remembered by famous ISKCON personalities like Radhanath Swami [17] and Jahnavi Harrison
