The Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) was incorporated in 2001 in the state of Massachusetts. The association includes a variety of stakeholders in the air barrier industry and utilizes the Air Barrier Quality Assurance Program (QAP). While many projects are still specified in the Northeastern US, there are now many projects being specified in other regions. It is the goal of the Association to see projects specified ABAA throughout the US.

The goals of the Association is to promote the use of air barriers in buildings, provide education to interested parties on air barriers and to have the installation of air barriers subject to the ABBA Site Quality Assurance Program which includes Accredited contractors and Certified installers.

ABAA organizes Technical Committees to develop air barrier standards, air barrier specifications and provides performance requirements for materials assemblies and components.

ABAA has a Housewrap Committee which works to develop technical based standards, specifications and other documents which set requirements for the performance of water resistive barriers.

ABAA has established a Flashing and Terminations Committee to deal with the ancillary products used in air barrier assemblies, air barrier systems and water resistive barrier assemblies.[citation needed]
