The Airbus Future Jet Trainer is a program by Airbus to make a new training aircraft. It is intended to replace the CASA C-101 and Northrop/CASA F-5M in Spanish service.[1] There is no contract that forces this to be made, but it is designed for the Spanish Air Force's requirements for a trainer capable of training pilots for Fifth-generation fighters.[1] Although it is intended to replace the F-5M in Spanish service, Airbus plans to also market it to other nations air forces such as the Mexican Air Force.[1]
