Aird & Berlis LLP is a Canadian corporate law firm based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
History[edit]
Aird & Berlis LLP originated as Zimmerman Grant Hugo Paddon Worley & Bennett, founded in 1911.[2] In 1974, the firm merged with Edison Aird & Berlis and adopted its current name.
The firm's founding partner John Black Aird served in the Senate of Canada from 1964 to 1974 and was Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1980 to 1985.
Aird & Berlis LLP has developed a broad range of clientel consisting of some of Canada's largest businesses. In 2003, the firm acted as counsel to Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust in its inital offering on the TSX.[3] The REIT remains one of the firm's most significant clients, along with Enbridge, Linamar[4], Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust [5], and several of the Big Five banks of Canada.
The firm's charitable and community efforts include sponsoring emerging Canadian athletes and raising funds for charities.[6]
Aird & Berlis LLP was named the outstanding Canadian firm of the year at the 2022 Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Awards for advancing diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the legal profession.[7]
