[1]Jinn Lee Rodriguez (born April 1, 2001), better known by his stage name Aj RodGuns, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, photographer, and visual artist. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised in Millville, New Jersey. RodGuns is known for his unique creativity in his music and video content. RodGuns frequently works independently and releases his music through RodGunx Records, a label formed by him. At the age of 11, RodGuns started writing and singing his own songs. He released one song on an old account SoundCloud back in 2019 named 'ajonly_songs', titled "Never There".[2] It was a hip-hop/rap song that he made talking about the separation of his parents. RodGuns had a difficult childhood.

On June 30, 2021, RodGuns released his debut extended play (EP), titled, smile on the outside. Featuring five emotionally charged tracks. The EP resonated with a diverse audience and garnered positive reviews across multiple music platforms, including Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, etc. These songs were created to help him battle depression and express his true feelings. Originally, he intended it to be a full album with around 13 songs, but due to a tight deadline, it became an EP. The music still carries the same emotional depth and connection with listeners.

In 2022, RodGuns released his debut album, Extra Smiles, on February 22, 2022. This album combined remastered tracks from his EP "smile on the outside" with five never-before-heard songs. The album received acclaim and helped elevate his standing in the music industry. RodGuns continued to captivate his audience with the release of "Pretty Boy" on March 30, 2022. Accompanied by an animated music video, this single further solidified his place as a creative force within the music world.

On June 27, 2022, RodGuns released a deluxe edition of his debut album, Extra Smiles (Deluxe Edition). This deluxe edition featured five new tracks, remastered versions of earlier works, and RodGuns’ biggest hit,"Pretty Boy. Enhancing the musical experience for his audience.

On October 1, 2022, he added a festive twist to his repertoire by releasing the single "Deck the Hells". A unique Halloween/Christmas song celebrating the winter holidays in a different way.

In 2023, he continued to explore new creative frontiers by releasing a new album on October 13 titled, "The Mask of Smile". The album delved into deep themes of deception, self-discovery, and personal stories, further cementing his connection with listeners on an emotional level.

Early life

Jinn Lee Rodriguez was born on April 1, 2001, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to parents Heather and Jimmy Rodriguez. His family moved to Hawley, Philadelphia, when he was two. As a child, he suffered from multiple physical and mental issues, causing his body to shut down and leading to hospitalization. RodGuns struggled with his education due to his health. However, he did not let his disabilities stop him from trying to live a normal life. He was homeschooled from 1st grade to 4th grade, through an online public school, to make it easier for him to learn and go to school virtually. RodGuns always had a love for music. His mother encouraged him to express himself and to explore the different types of art, dance, and music. His mother used to be a DJ and had a large collection of music to choose from. Growing up, his mother taught him how to play piano and read sheet music.

At the age of nine, he created a lot of different melodies on the piano. However, he didn't know how to put lyrics to them. RodGuns also took dance classes until 2011, when his parents separated due to his mother having a heart attack. His parents got divorced in 2012. RodGuns and his mother left Hawley, Pennsylvania, and moved to his mother's hometown in Millville, New Jersey. In that same year, he went to Millville Public School to start middle school. RodGuns was bullied in middle school and high school. To cope with his depression, he used to write a lot. At age 11, he started playing the guitar and wrote his first "real" song titled "Can't Stop Me". On June 3, 2012, RodGuns posted it on his YouTube channel called Jinnxx12. At age 14 RodGuns joined his school choir, where he learned to songwrite and perfected his vocal abilities.

Career

[3] RodGuns' musical journey started back in 2013 when he was only 11 years old. He loved making up songs and melodies all the time. So, he decided to post videos on YouTube titled, "WOW he can play" In the video he plays a song called, "Can't Stop Me", where he was having fun strumming his guitar and singing his heart out. Over the years, his channel included skits, dancing, gaming and much more. As of now, his channel is still up and running.

In 2019, RodGuns wrote, recorded and produced his first song titled "Never There".[4] It was a hip-hop/rap song about the separation of his parents and how his father mistreated him when he was a child. Also, how his father was never there to watch him grow up and become an adult. At the end of 2019, his depression grew bigger leading to his hospitalization on December 7, 2019. RodGuns was hospitalized and had a heart attack. It took him a year to recover physically. However, mentally he was still down and depressed. While recovering, RodGuns made music and videos to cope with his emotions. He was stuck in bed for 5 months and did nothing but write, create beats, and make TikTok videos.

On June 30, 2021, RodGuns released his debut EP smile on the outside with five songs: "Smile Intro", "im not urs", "S3XBOY", "Ruined 4 Year", and "Happy Pills". After a week, his songs got outstanding reviews on Spotify, YouTube, and SoundCloud. RodGuns was happy that his music was getting listened to and wanted to make an album. Although, his mental health started decreasing rapidly, resulting in getting hospitalized in September 2021 for mental health. After discharge, he decided to focus more on his music and wanted to share his story with the world. RodGuns stated in an interview in July 2021 that he started working on an idea of an album back in 2019. The album was originally called "Fly Away (Short Flight)". RodGuns scraped the idea and came up with "smile on the outside" in 2020. When "smile on the outside" released on YouTube, RodGuns put this in his playlist description; "smile on the outside is an EP I released on June 30th, 2021. I made these songs to help battle my depression and express how truly feel. Originally, this was supposed to be an album with about 13 songs. However, I had a deadline that I couldn't beat. So, this EP was created."[5]

On February 17th, 2022, RodGuns announced three weeks after releasing that he would be releasing his debut album, "Extra Smiles" on February 22nd.[6] He posted two photos that day. One was of the back of the album cover, consisting the tracklist of 10 songs. The other photo was announcing the release date of the album, that are now available on Apple Music and all other streaming platforms. On February 22nd, 2022, RodGuns released his debut album to the public. He put five of his other songs from the EP, "smile on outside" mixed in with five new songs titled, "Smile", "I'm Fine", "Flatline", "ISL", "Hell Hole", and "Goodbye". Upon release his streams went through the roof. RodGuns received outstanding reviews from the Alternative, Pop, and Experimental community, making his EP and album skyrocket in streams and followers.

On March 15, 2022, RodGuns announced his single "Pretty Boy" via Instagram,[7] that would be released on March 30. On March 26, RodGuns posted a photo of himself which was animated with the caption, "It's Animation Time",[8] hinting towards a possibly new music video. RodGuns doesn't have many music videos. At the time he only had one music video and the rest were lyric videos. When his single released, fans were surprised with a completely animated music video. RodGuns got over 1,000 views in one night.[9] According to RodGuns, "Pretty Boy" was supposed to be on "Extra Smiles". However, he finished the song 3 weeks after releasing the album.

On April 30, 2022, RodGuns announced on his Instagram that "Project Smile"[10] was in full effect and coming out on June 27. Fans were confused on what RodGuns could possibly do next. During this time, RodGuns’ music was hitting small mid-stones. Having his music played across the world on non-commercial radios and multiple Spotify playlists. On June 27, 2022, "Project Smile" was released and had fans shocked. RodGuns released a deluxe version of his debut album called "Extra Smiles (Deluxe Edition)". This album had four new songs and his single "Pretty Boy". His new songs are titled, "Listen To Me", "Storytime", "Daddy Issues", "I'm Fine (feat. LITTGODD)", and "Losing Touch". RodGuns also remastered five of his older songs, "Ruined 4 Years", "S3XBOY", "Flatline", "ISL (Dear Lord)", and "Hell Hole". RodGuns stated on his Instagram LIVE that, "This is just the beginning, I still have a lot more things I want to do and a lot more songs I want to produce. I been working on so many different things since I released Extra Smiles, and can't wait to show you guys. I still have one more thing to release before the end of year. The only thing I'm going to say about that is get ready for some winter fun."
