Ajith Nair is an Indian filmmaker and writer based in Bahrain. He directed the 2010 Malayalam film Nilavu, reported by Gulf Daily News as the first Malayalam feature film shot in Bahrain.[1]

Early life

Ajith Nair was born in Kalpetta, Wayanad, Kerala, India. He moved to Bahrain in the 1990s, working as a programmer before moving into photography, event management, and video production.[2]

Career

Feature films

In 2010, Ajith Nair wrote and directed Nilavu, a Malayalam feature film produced by Convex Productions in Bahrain on a budget of BD30,000.[1] The film stars Krishnan Haridas and Sunita Nedungadi and depicts the lives of Indian expatriates in Manama.[1] Ajith Nair also wrote lyrics and contributed to the cinematography. The film's soundtrack was composed by Reji Gopinath, with vocals by K. S. Chithra ("Raavin Nilaa Mazha Keezhil") and G. Venugopal ("Ariyathe Onnum Parayaathe").[1]

In 2012, Ajith Nair announced Arabana, a planned Malayalam feature film concerning Gulf expatriates.[3]

Short films and documentaries

In 2006, Ajith Nair filmed oil fields and military vessels in Iraq for an American television network, including footage aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.[2] He has also provided camera work for National Geographic and the BBC.[2]

In 2020, Ajith Nair wrote and directed the short film Mist, produced under Convex Cinema.[4] The film received awards at the 'Thira 2021' Short Film Festival in Thiruvananthapuram.[5]

The same year, he composed music for the song "Mayuram", sung by K. S. Harisankar with lyrics by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri.[6]

Ajith Nair has published short story collections and memoirs in Malayalam:
