Akhtaboot is an online career network and employment website serving the MENA region through matching employers to employees. "Akhtaboot" is the Arabic word for Octopus, characterized by its 8 arms; this is intended to convey the idea of a multi-branched network. [2] The firm is located in Amman, Jordan, with branches in Dubai and Riyadh.[3] It utilizes Internet, social media, radio, newspapers and magazines to advertise employers' job vacancies.

Services[edit]

Job seekers upload their CVs and apply for jobs free of charge. The site uses a Facebook app that allows job seekers to upload their CV and apply to jobs from within Facebook.[4] The firm also has partnerships with area newspapers, radio stations and magazines to promote its job vacancies.

The services for employers include CV Search, Job Postings and the Assisted Service. The site offers a "Career Connect" service to its companies giving them their own fully integrated and branded jobs section, with the ability to place job postings and receive applications directly on their own website.[5][6] Some of the companies that chose Akhtaboot to power the careers section of their website include: Olympic group in Cairo, Egypt [7][8] and Bank Al Etihad in Amman, Jordan.[9][10]

It is the only career site in the Middle East qualified as a Myers-Briggs (MBTI) provider.[11] It provides job seekers and recruiters with this service; job seekers who upload their CVs can take the MBTI test free of charge.

Public service[edit]

In February 2009 the firm launched the “Akhtaboot Cares Initiative” (ACI), aimed at helping Arabic society develop the young generation's career growth.[12] The initiative was developed through partnerships with third parties and educational institutions including the University of Jordan, Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT),[13] Philadelphia University, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) and German Jordanian University.[14][15] The initiative provides educational lectures and workshops to university students and recent graduates on how to approach the job market.

It also offers CV evaluation services in job fairs and other career-related events [16] such as the American University in Dubai Career Fair 2012,[17][18] College of Business Career Fair 2012 [19] and Al Ain Education & Career Fair.[20] As part of Akhtaboot's CSR program (ACI), Akhtaboot is powering the careers site of universities in Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia with Akhtaboot Microsite solution (a whitelabel of Akhtaboot.com). Some of these universities include The British University in Dubai,[21][22] King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM)[23] and Middlesex University Dubai [24][25]

Akhtaboot signed a partnership agreement with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Society (TAG-Knowledge) on May 31, 2010 in Amman, Jordan to organize job fairs throughout the Arab world.[26][27]

Awards[edit]

In December, 2011, Akhtaboot has been included as a "start-up to watch" in the "Arabia Fast Growth 500" list,[28] a project of AllWorld Network.[29]

On May, 2011, it is also included in “Jordan Fast Growth 30” List,[30] a project of AllWorld Network which highlights the fastest growing privately held businesses in Jordan.[31]

In February, 2010, Haj Hasan and Shamoun were selected as Endeavor Entrepreneurs along with 9 others from Egypt, Jordan, Mexico, and Turkey.[32] (Endeavor is a global nonprofit organization that stimulates and supports high-impact entrepreneurship in emerging markets.) [33]
